What is Motion Graphics?

As a studio whose services are primarily motion graphics, we wanted to ensure our clients understood what we meant. Naturally, it can seem confusing to know what “motion graphics” entails. Specifically, motion graphics is a catch-all term used in the industry for any kind of animated video. It can contain any manner of disciplines or any sort of style—and any mix therein!

The disciplines break down into two basic elements: 2D and 3D elements. They can be used in combination with one another and with filmed video elements. Generally, video is treated similarly to 2D elements. 2D includes character animation, 2D FX elements, title FX, anything that can be created in a 2D space. By the same token, 3D elements include anything that can be created in a 3D space. For example, 3D animated elements, simulation FX, rendered 3D elements (from type to objects) and entire 3D scenes. Any of these can be combined with video elements to create a cohesive whole.

Foundationally, style can encompass any aesthetic, but some common styles include: whiteboard, kinetic type, walkthroughs, explainer videos, moving infographics, loading screen, logo animation, liquid motion.

However, though we are a motion graphics studio, we also offer still images and sound production. We have experience in producing an entire production from start to finish. Subsequently this includes illustrations, infographic posters, high resolution renders, music, sound FX, and more.
